Fifty-seven years ago today, the United States granted a patent on something that has made life and checking out a lot easier for everyone -- the barcode. The barcode, which those of us that have worked in retail are extremely pleased about its implementation. For those of you unfamiliar with what a barcode is, it's a series of differnt-shaped lines on the outside of most product that allows easy scanning when purchases ar e being made or something else requires the input of a series of numbers.Turns out the barcode was first invented by Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver who originally patented as a circle that could be scanned from any direction but later evolved into the rectangle-shaped barcode that we all love so much. Turns out the IOC just doesn't appreciate The Windy City like most of us would. Despite tireless pleas from President Barack Obama, Rio De Janeiro was awarded the 2016 Summer Olympics over Chicago. This makes it the first South American city ever awarded the games and sends Chicago and other would-be Olympic hosts back to the drawing board to try and woo the X-Games instead. Too bad for those of us that would have made the trek to Illinois to watch all of the events that are worth the four-year wait to see like gymnastics and basketball and the other events. Even worse for the rest of the world that might not ever taste deep-dish pizza like the ones you can find in Chicago.
Don't make a bad decision like the International Olympic Committee made when they skipped out on the U.S. and choose Starving Students when you move. Send us an e-mail
