Many went south to a dairy farm at the top of a hill, owned by John D. Daly. They were welcomed, stayed there and formed a community, which eventually became a city. To repay Mr. Daly's kindness, they named the new city after him. It's said that he was so happy with the news he gave a flower to every woman in the city.
